On 11 August 2007, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were kicked, stamped on and left unconscious – for nothing more than looking different.

Sophie, who was 20 years old, later died from her injuries.

After she died, Sophie’s MySpace site was swamped by people offering condolence, and relating their own stories of being attacked for how they looked.
