January 12, 2014: the Sharjah Public Prosecution has postponed the execution of five men convicted for murder on account of the Prophet’s birthday.
Their death sentences were pronounced by the Supreme Court in 2013. The prosecution said that according to plans, the five men involved in three separate crimes were to be executed by firing squad at Sharjah Central Jail on 12 January morning.
In the first case, three Bangladeshis identified as A. A, Q. T. and M. N., strangled an Indian man identified as T. A. on 2 July 2007. The dispute was over a woman.
The fourth person to be executed is an Egyptian identified as A. A., who killed another Egyptian on 5 June 2008.
The fifth person to be executed is a Sri Lankan man identified as R. K., who ran over an Emirati man.
All five convicts had failed to get pardon from the families of the victims. They refused to receive the blood money.
