Imkaan is the national Black, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BMER) charity dedicated to addressing violence against women and girls. As a second-tier membership organisation, Imkaan represents the expertise and perspectives of frontline BMER women’s services that work to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls. Our work includes:
• Strategic advocacy to ensure that violence against women and girls policy and practice is reflective of BMER women’s and girls’ experiences of violence.
• Development and support to the specialist BMER violence against women and girls sector through the provision of information, capacity building and peer support.
• Research, newsletters and publications informed by the direct needs of the sector, to improve service delivery, highlight good practice responses and BMER women’s pathways to care and support.
• Accredited training and peer education on all forms of gender-based violence, including specialist sessions on domestic violence, forced marriage and ‘honour-based’ violence.
• Consultancy on project management, team building, strategic planning, development and needs assessments.
• Presentations, public speaking and media contributions on issues related to violence against women and girls and the specialist BMER violence against women and girls sector.
